Explores the shift in focus from production to consumption
"Consumerism has become the practical ideology of capitalism" is a statement made in the book. This is what Bocock is trying to explore and doing this he reveals the shift from modern to post-modern and how individuals now create their social identity through consumption patterns and not like it used to be through work roles.
