The greatest strength of this book are the exercises. After each chapter, the reader is provided with a number of exercises to open oneself in experiencing his or her intuitive voice. All of the exercises and journaling suggestions are right on target in enabling you to use your intuition. Those who are well acquainted with intuition literature would find it worth their time to review those various exercises.
Developing Intuition is not an in depth look at the subject nor does it bog you down in various theories. It is a very general book with helpful suggestions. Read it during quiet moments at home or when you're on your job. Its insights will lead you to consider trying another alternative mode for your life. It is an average book in the field of intuition literature.
The book is just under 160 pages long and is nifty 8 X 10 in size and is handy to carry and read while waiting for an appointment, while on a break or simply as a relaxation tool anytime of day. There are 12 Chapters and they cover everything from What is Intuition, Becoming Aware, Trusting Yourself, Learning to Relax, Accessing Intuition, Acting on Intuition, Interpreting Intuitive Messages, Distinguishing Intuition from Other Voices,Intuition and Emotions,Intuition and the Body, Intuition and Work, The Art of Following Intuition etc.
Personally the Chapters on Trusting Yourself, Learning to Relax, and Distinguishing Intuition from Other Voices, were the most helpful and needed. Most helpful was her notation of the other selves that may "rule" us i.e. The Rational Mind/Intutition; The Responsible Self/The Free Spirit; The Caretaker/The Perfectionist; The Rule Maker/The Rebel; The Straight Talker;The Pleaser. Almost a YinYang inside some of us. Or two in one.
Reminding the reader how important it is to know the difference between a false craving and or addiction and our true intuitive impulses and how we need to with certain mental or awareness exercises learn to listen to our bodies. This is helpful for me as I have changed my lifestyle in order to get rid of (not simply lose or misplace) weight and become more physically fit. Anyone with a problem relating to drugs, alcohol, food, work, or relationships may find her tools to be an asset in learning to STOP and pay attention to the pull toward self destruction.
Her books reminded me of how sometimes I would feel the pull to eat something even when I wasn't hungry. But in learning to STOP and listen to what my body was saying, what I often discovered was that my body wanted some attention so I would either take a nap or go for a brief walk. Or the person who feels a sense of boredom and heads out the door to go buy something, anything, when the Authors lessons will teach you to STOP and listen to what your mind/body etc is REALLY saying.
Cultivating ones Intuitive powers will help save you money in the long term and as the authors has shown will help you become the happier and less stressed person you may have always wanted to be.
