Review of Follow the Yellow Brick Road
Alibrando provides very practical suggestions for examining and starting to change one's patterns of actions for the better. His principles become easy to understand and remember as he links them to characters in the familiar Wizard of Oz story. For example, the Cowardly Lion becomes a symbol of our capacity to "move against" other people - positively, as in acts of courage, or negatively, as in self-centered aggression. Alibrando has formulated his principles from his mastery of theory and from his clinical experience, and he gives many useful examples taken from his work with employees, spouses and family members who realize that they want to improve their ways of relating to the people close to them. Although the author himself warns that his book can be no substitute for the care of a competent therapist, I found that it gave me insights that I have been able to apply within my own relationships.

The Reality of Oz in Daily Life
Wow! This brilliant book is for anyone seriously desiring a change in unhealthy patterns of behavior & thinking in any area of their life. This doable paperback gives me instant life tools I can use today. There is fast & easy recall for myself because the author parallels important interpersonal principles to the familiar story of The Wizard of Oz. I enjoy self-help books & this author goes beyond John Gottman's relationship navigational theories to provide an understanding of the hazards lurking when I stray from the map of the yellow brick road. This book presents the positives & negatives of emotional connecting concepts. It shares the resources available along the journey when we enter the unfamiliar Oz which becomes our reality. Dr. Sam's idea of relating tried & true theories to the characters in the Oz story is a stroke of genius. I can help myself every day by observing my behavior in likeness with the famous Oz symbols. Thanks doc! It is a kiss from Glinda, the good witch, to help me wisely select the supportive Toto & Munchkins in my life. Thanks too, Dr. Sam, for a map down the yellow brick road & changing my reality. I strongly recommend reading & implementing the concepts in this paperback each day as you journey through Oz!
