One of the Best Books Available on Proposals
This is one of the best books available on proposals. As the managing partner of a global consulting firm, I was particularly pleased to see that co-author L. Sue Baugh served six years as senior editor at Booz, Allen & Hamilton developing, writing, and producing proposals. This instant credibility was borne out by the quality of the material -- really top notch. One of the best things about this book is that it includes numerous excerpts and samples from various proposals. Many proposals books fail to include sufficient examples and excerpts. The only thing that I really didn't like about the book was that it spends so much time discussing RFPs. My firm tries to avoid RFPs. Why? Because we believe that we offer truly unique service solutions (and our approaches have been trademarked to protect these unique service solution). We certainly don't want to be one of several consultancies competing for a "commodity" project. However, despite this focus on RFPs, this book is still one of the best available. Strangely enough, the best book I have found is a member of the "For Dummies..." collection: Bob Kantin's "Sales Proposals Kit For Dummies." If you work in consulting or other business services profession, I'd recommend that you purchase both books. Overall grade: B+/A-.
