Way too many errors!
I bought the book a couple of years ago & started reading it. After a few chapters I stopped because I was too disgusted with the large number of errors, which included both typos & obviously incorrect information (e.g. byte claimed to be 16 bits long). I have subsequently bought, read, & recommend both the Simon Roberts book and the Bill Brogden book. Personally, I think the Roberts book is better.

Oh My God!
I just spent two days working through the first five chapters of the book. At first, the typos were amusing, but after a while, they became extremely frustrating and tedious. I must admit, I learned a lot cross-checking the gargage that he was dishing out. I can not believe that New Riders wouldn't publish an errata sheet for this book. It's a published rough draft that was never was never seen by a technical editor--an absolute embarrassment for New Riders and Cary Jardin. I blame New Riders and will avoid their publications.I guess I've gotta shop for another book, now. You should, too.

I cannot believe this book was published.
This book is so poor I have been forced to take New Riders press off our recommended book sellers list. It is obvious that it has never been looked at by a technical editor.What is even worse is that New Riders and Macmillan Computer Publishing have not issued any update or even errata for the text.
Purchase the Boone or Roberts/Heller text instead.
