Not helpful for the beginner
Although this book gives you many ways on how to meditate, I think that kind of defeat the purpose. Why do you meditate in the first place? To relax and get things off your mind. With so many techniques taught in this book, the ironic result is I have too much information in my head to start meditating. Frankly, why do I have to read 150 pages before I can meditate? A shorter book has got to be the way to go.

simply beautiful
this book is excellent for beginners. It is clear, precise, and the illustrations are calming and encouraging.
It steers clear of trying to "sell" you on meditation and concentrates on the practice itself. The font, illustrations, and the layout of the book have a very positive overall impact and Fontana's writing is reassuring and very useful.

Great place to get started in meditation
This is an excellent introduction and beginner guide to meditation. I especially like several things. First, there are numerous, simple, step-by-step exercises throughout the book that walk you from simple to more difficult, helping you learn different techniques for meditation along the way. Second, there is a very short, but useful and interesting, introduction to the major types of meditation, and the related philosophies. This is not really needed, but it is short, and so makes a nice introduction. Third, there is no philosophy or religion forced upon you, and in fact, you are expected to work the meditation into your own life style. This book is very easy to read, and yet gives a lot of information in a small place. Higly recommended to get you started. Unlike many other books on meditation, this one is NOT just an ad for training, tools, or other money wasters. If you want to make meditation a part of your life, this book will get you started.
