Nobody's Perfect But ...
I am currently preparing to take the Network Essentials exam. I'm using this study guide and have found some serious problems. There are lots of typo's and some are downright dangerous! The worst I've found so far is in a table on page 283 where 10BaseT and 10Base2 are transposed which confuses all of the listed characteristics for the two specifications. There are also some very important concepts and terms that are either glossed over or missing altogether. One example is in using Performance Monitor counters for troubleshooting. The book describes Performance Monitor but gives no concrete information on the threshold values that indicate trouble. My biggest complaint with the book concerns the CD-ROM. The CD is advertised as having 1000 test questions - 300 from the chapter tests and about 700 in five demonstration programs from other publishers. One of the programs was missing. As for the remaining programs, they each contain sample tests for many of the MCSE exams and when all is said and done very few questions relate to Networking Essentials at all. None of the practice tests give you enough of a workout to really gauge how well you are doing. I agree with other readers who like the book's format. Features like "Exam Watch" and "From the Classroom" have helped me focus my studies. I'll happily admit to having learned a great deal from reading the book - twice so far and still going. Still, I'm surprised that others have received the book so well. I'm disappointed.

I Hope There Is Better!
This is the second Osbourne I have used. I passed with an 866, but I do not attribute much to this book. The typos were annoying, and some material was grossly outdated (copyrighted in 1998!). Thank goodness for Exam Cram 3rd Edition. I think I will take everyone's advice and try Que next.

Good book, for test and more.
I was able to pass the test fairly easily with this book and some study guides off the internet.

Beyond that, the book teaches the subject well. Some of these books seem to only teach you how to pass the test. This one actually teaches the material. It was/is used as a textbook at my college, though, personally, I think it is too centered on MS tech to be the best choice for that purpose.
