An excellent study guide
I just took my 70-315 exam today(and my head is still spinning). It was difficult, but I managed to pass, by and large thanks to this book. I can't speak highly enough of the quality of Mr. Kalani's study guide. It is very comprehensive, with countless practical examples. All of the source code is included on the CD, and I found very few errors in the code. If you are planning to sit for the 70-315 exam or just want to learn ASP.NET, then I must say that this is the book for you. The only downside is that the included PrepLogic exam is quite poor. There are several questions that are just plain wrong and the difficulty is far too easy. Also, the book questions, while good, are definitely easier than the actual exam questions. Personally, I also purchased the Transcender practice exams(despite the ridiculous price), and I must say that they more accurately reflect the difficulty level of the exam. The bottom line is that this book + Transcender exams = recipe for success. Happy studying!!!

Great Book!
If you want to learn the material, this is a great book to use. Kalani uses a hands on approach to teaching what you need to know to pass the 70-315. Each topic starts with a brief discussion of that topic and then followed by a practice exercise. The exercises are interesting enough to keep you motivated but simple enough to concentrate on the skill being highlighted without a lot of extra useless information. If you want to pass the test, this is a great place to start. If you read and study the book from cover to cover and work all the exercises, you might be able to pass the test with this book alone, but probably not. You have a much better chance of passing if you get some real world hands on experience, read the referenced resources, do additional research from the Visual Studio .NET Combinded Collection and take several simulation tests.
The end of chapter questions were good but many were simpler than you might expect on an actual test. The CD that came with the book has sample code for the exercises and a practice test from PrepLogic. Although useful, the PrepLogic test was not the best I found.
One thing that frustrated me was that I was unable to do some of the exercises because of the default security settings for ASP.NET. I felt like those issues should have been discussed earlier in the book. There were also several errors in the book. Most were not serious. But because of these issues I decline to give a full 5 stars.
Bottom line. I passed the test the first time using this book.

Great for Self-Instruction, Too
Not only did I use this book to study for the exam, but I also used it to teach myself ASP.NET fundamentals. In fact, using this certification guide, a SAMS intro book, and the Transcender exam, I passed after having only 5 months experience TOTAL with .NET (Microsoft recommends 1 year).
One thing I can say is that while this book teaches you almost everything you would want to know about ASP.NET, you can expect to do some extra digging if you want to pass the exam. I definitely needed the Transcender exam too (also see http://codeclinic.com/70-315skills.htm).
Main weak spots of the book: Web User and Custom Controls especially as they are registered and manipulated within .aspx markup and too little depth on the more obscure methods and properties of ADO.NET and Sql Server managed provider objects.
