A most useful resource
Dr. Weiss' book on Million Dollar Consulting is one of the most practical and useful books that I've read since becoming a human resources consultant. In fact, I consider it such a valuable resource that it accompanies me, in my briefcase, wherever I go. When I get spare moments of time, I use them to review particular sections of the book, in order to keep all the ideas Dr. Weiss provides fresh in my mind. I consider this book my consultant's "field guide."

This book is for professional consultants, and covers practical tips, techniques, and ideas we can use as we work with our existing clients, and develop new ones.

The most valuable components of the book for me include the section on writing proposals. Dr. Weiss provides some sure-fire ways to create proposals that clients sign most quickly. I know this because I've successfully used them since reading the book (I also read the previous edition). He provides numerous ideas for staying in contact with clients, growing your business, how to maintain quality relationships with clients, and how to use technology appropriately. The myriad of other issues he addresses includes: client relations, the importance of networking, establishing consulting fees, publishing options we can employ as we stay in touch with our clients, how to deal with clients when they tell me, "your price is too high," financial aspects of consulting, ethics in consulting.

My book is tremendously dog-eared because I use that process to mark pages that house information that is important to me. As well, my yellow high-lighter had to be replaced after identifying all the key pieces of advice I gleaned from this book.

For anyone in the consulting field, this is a must-read.

If you don't BUY THIS BOOK, you're leaving $$$ on the table
You're here, checking out Alan Weiss' masterpiece for consultants and you have enough information. Just just go back up the page and click "add this to your shopping cart." Alan's wisdom and strategies are beyond brilliant.

And if you're one who reads books at the library before you buy them - I'll save you a trip to the library.

Just buy the book. I've read 'em all and nothing comes close to Million Dollar Consulting. If you're simply in sales, or do consulting for a living, get into Alan's head, build on his experience and see how reading a book can help you make money and avoid losing it as well. This is often humorous, always blunt and Alan is honest enough about how he grew early-on. Bottom line is you avoid mistakes and add to, well, your bottom line.

Bottoming out in consulting? Discouraged? Hit a plateau? Here it is in beautiful black and white print - the boost you need to succeed. I can't believe I knew about this book years ago and didn't buy it.

The Bible of Consulting
What can you add to these other reviews about a book in its third edition and in its twelfth year on the bookshelves? If you read no other book on consulting, read this, because Alan Weiss takes you from the rudiments of start up through the acquisition of clients and the establishment of fees, and manages to include practice management, ethics, and other factors along the way. He delves into these subjects in greater depth in his successive books (e.g., Value Based Fees), but this book is a rare and comprehensive trip through the consulting profession written in plain English, with wit, and pulling no punches about bad advice, fads, and gurus. As an experienced consultant, I was still able to change my approach to proposals, fees, and follow-up marketing, thanks to Million Dollar Consulting, which is not at all a far-fetched title.
