Tonic for the Pessimists! A Great Read!
Finally a realistic (and optimistic!) take on the world today. This book explains in simple terms why globalization is good, how wealth is being created, and how most lives are changing for the better. Anyone who listens to national Public Radio, or reads books like Friedman's Lexus and the Olive Tree will appreciate what Marber has to say. With detailed graphs, stats and anecdotes, this is a user-friendly primer on some of the most complex issues of our time. A great feel-good read for the summer...

Peter Marber's book addresses the changes wealth brings to developing societies. Whatever the reader's thoughts about growth and trade, life for everyone is getting better and is much better than the lives of our ancestors.Having made this point Marber then explores various segments of life to illustrate the effects of the improving lifestyle. He explains how the role of women in society changes. The attitudes towards faith and religion change as people become more educated. Consumer spending goes through various stages. Environmental issues gain importance and educations speeds up the whole process.
