No More Free Days: A Let-Down
Laurie Schaefer's No More Free Days was, overall, a let-down. My response to the majority of her "concrete advice" for first-year teachers was, casually speaking, "duh." Her pertinent experiences were not described in depth-- but the impertinent ones were, some of which were so boring and trite that skimming seemed the only way to get through them as I searched in vain for info that was new and helpful, or at least entertaining. As far as her writing style, she was very repetitive-- I feel that the 280-page book could have been condensed into less than 100 pages. Her language was bland, lacking color and depth, and her sentences were cursed with cliches. A blatant typo on the back cover reveals a careless publisher.
