When the student is ready, the teacher appears!
As I read the first chapter, I remember thinking, 'oh lord, not another psychological mumbo jumbo book.' However, I decided to be open-minded and continue reading. Thank God for open-mindedness or I might have not tossed aside a book that, in my humble opinion, delievers an all encompassing view of what we will need to know about ourselves and how we can achieve much needed balance as we travel our spiritual path. The author begins with a simple overview of his interpretation of soul psychology, which is where I almost detoured off this path and put the book aside. In this first chapter, you may feel as though your are about to undergo another hideous variation of one person's answer in the never ending field of self-help. Fear not! This book will enlighten you and give you many tools to clearing the negative ego. A few chapters will seem very self-help oriented but don't let that scare you. These tools provided are excellent for healing emotions and working through the negative emotions that keeps coming up in your life. These tools can be of great assistance in situations where you keep repeating the same or similar behavioral patterns, emotions and reaction, as if you are caught in some sort of cosmic feedback loop. While the author doesn't describe these experiences the way I have and simply provides the tools, I have found that these tools offer an opportunity to rise above these pattern or step outside the loop. This is a major component in becoming more spiritual, for how can one be more spiritual when he/she consistently reacts/responds to situations with negative emotions such as fear, anger, powerlessness, frustration, indecisiveness, judgementalnes etc. The tools provided are helpful to rising above these conditioned reactions.

Another one of my favorite sections is the list of traps one will likely fall into on a path to ascension. I found around 70 that I know I am facing in one way or another. This list alone will help one understand what it truly means to clearn the negative ego/emotions and become more spiritual. The author also discusses the chakras and the human aura to some degree, all of which can be useful to you.

Finally, there is much, much more that this book has to offer... the laws of manifestation (a much more spiritual version than what I have encountered during my journey to self-realization), the laws of karma, archetypes, spiritual tests...

Soul Psycholgy is a book that I will be refering to over and over again. It offers tools, insight, and understanding whether it be more 'practical' or more 'esoteric' (Some would not appreciate me separating the two. Yet one must realize there are people who would be drawn to this book for more practical reasons just as there are people who would be drawn to this book for more esoteric reasons, and IMHO, this book can offer a great deal of insight, understanding, and guidance, as well as assistance to either group.)

It is said that when the student is ready, the teacher appears. This book will be a teacher to all are ready to receive what it offers.

Bound to be a Classic!
I never thought I would gain so much insight, understanding and practical guidance from a single book. Dr. Stone has put together a modern compilation of techniques and psychospiritual systems in an easy to understand format. I definitely recommend this book!

Surprising erudite and without guile
Frankly, a few years ago I browsed through one of Dr. Stone's books in a metaphysical bookstore. That particular book was about New Age Spiritual Ascension techniques, which left me cold as being just another fanciful dogma to compete with traditional religious dogmas in late 20th century America. Instead of the Christian "royal family" (God the Father, Jesus, Mary and that distant Uncle the Holy Spirit) this genre relied on personification of the divine in terms of great Ascended Masters who speak to Joshua. I was scandalized by this. Yet, recently I was drawn to Soul Psychology, and have been very impressed with its down-to-earth yet inspiring qualities. This is NOT your standard New Age fluff filled with pious platitudes and far out generalizations. Instead, this is a practical working guide to help aid the reader in working on release from the negative programming (of church, family, school, society, etc.) that Joshua characterizes as the "negative ego". How many adults cannot relate to the desire to reprogram their operating system to varied degree, to draw closer to the spiritual, and to what truly matters in life? I would suggest that if someone does not recognize their own "negative ego" (which is inherent to some degree in all of us) then that person might actually be speaking from (albeit immersed within) that negative ego. The differentiation between this negative ego (that mental voice that puts us down or puts others down...) and the ego aspects that allow us to drive a car is quite obvious the moment anyone reads past page 1. This is a sincere and kindly book. I recommend it wholeheartedly. Indeed, perhaps I'll give those Ascended Masters a spin around the book via one of Dr. Stone's Ascension series books. Who knows? They just might be friends of Seth (reference to a negative reviewer's reference to Jane Roberts).
