Solitude: The Art of Living with Yourself
I was rather disappointed with this and many other pop-psychological books based on this concept of having to love ourselves before we can love others........Scripture shows us that "No man yet hateth his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it." In reality if you really hated yourself , you would be glad that you are such and so.......and what happens to those decieved by such psuedo-religious and psyco-babble find themselves more lonley and consumed with self and no room to really love thy neighbor as themselves........When one gets up in the mourning, you shower, eat and generally take care of yourself....so love thy neighbor as thyself.......The title itself is rather revealing......

I thought this book was written about me.
As I started reading "Solitude" I felt more comfortable with each page I turned. It was like sinking into a big easy chair without any worries or troubles. I felt like the book was written about me. So many feelings, about being alone and enjoying it were confirmed that we must learn to be happy with ourselves.

I have just gone through the worst two years of my life and somehow, within myself, I started practicing meditations and enjoying solitude time to help with my healing. The healing effected both my physical and spiritual being. John Selby's book amazed me, because so many of his words, had been spoken from my mouth, before I even read it. It was like some higher power was teaching or reconfirming that I have the ability to live in inner peace. "Solitute" is not a book to be read once, or read it from front to back. It is a guide to self conciousness, and spirituality. It is a guide to being you own best friend. The meditations, and exercises inspire you to look deep within your soul and need to be practiced more than once.

As mentioned in the book, many children are ridiculed and thought not to be normal if they are not always socially active. I was always considered a loner, but inside I felt good to be by myself. Everyone else, tried to make me get involved in many activities that I would not have ever practised by choice.

The hardest part of enjoying our solitude, is the expectations of others or partners, who do not understand the concept of their spiritual or inner being. By saying spiritual, does not mean a Religion. It is a way of the life, given to you by some power be it inner or other.

"Solitute", inspired my deepest feelings and made me feel good about myself. John Selby has researched and studied hard to get to the great depth of his inner self. It is our great fortune that he shares and teaches us how to live our life to its highest and happiest potential.

I am by no means, a good writer, and I do not want to have my mistakes, reflect the greatness of John Selby's book. Anyone who is going through a hard time or just needs to find themselves must read this book. I am glad I did and will be looking to own a copy for myself.
