By far the best
Having spent several hours in B&N reading through the many different books on homebuying, we bought this one and Dummies. 106 Mistakes turned out to be the best by far. It gave us far more concrete examples concerning everything from mortgages to inspection to homeowner associations. In addition, it really helped us understand how to evaluate the appraisal as wellas the investment potential of the homes and neighborhoods we were considering. Eldred's experience and expertise seems to stand head and shoulders above the others. Plus, this book is the most entertaining to read. Don't look for a home without it.

Read this book before buying a house.
The book uses many real examples to tell the reader potential mistakes buyers often make. The stories are vivid and easy to remember. But the book does not bother to explain some basic concepts in home buying, which often is a problem for first-time buyers. This can be solved by having another book like Home Buying for Dummies as a reference. But the Dummies book is dry and not enough. Every time you want to buy a house (first, second, ...), you should read this book to refresh your memory about what can go wrong in the buying process.

Excellent for First-Time Buyers
This book is excellent for first-time buyers. It also is a good refresher for other buyers (we are in our third home). Good easy-to-read tips that are up-to-date. Better than any magazines for getting your money's worth.
