Very Academic, but interesting
Very interesting story about the coming of age of a cult leader. Gained some insight on seductive and charismatic personality types. And on obsessive love. But overall the book was way too academic for this layman. I couldn't keep up with the incredible vocabulary used to psychoanalyze the characters and situations. I needed the dictionary to help me interpret this book. I am sure it was written for fellow academics. I think it might have even have been a thesis. So although mostly interesting at times, can't say I really understand what the author was trying to say. It presented 3 case studies, and that was it. No overall sense of organization.

A fine study of control and manipulation
Jerry Alper writes in a clear concise way about one of our times great personal mysteries: why some people strive to control, manipulate and demean those they love, those they seek as personal intimates. The various congeries of behevior are discussed and a clear picture is fixed in the readers mind within a few case study examoles.
