Glean the Good
After reading the Editorial Review, I cannot bring myself to purchase this book for anyone, at least not at full price. I agree with some of Helen's general ideas when considering what a good man finds desirable in a mate, but I think most women already possess an innate sense of that when exposed to the presence of a good man. As far as the Bible goes, being humble as a little child is not the same thing as having the kind of childish "childlikeness" Helen Andelin recommends. Maybe men of her generation were looking for intellectual inferiors to defend and support, but educated, GOOD men today are looking for helpmeets, not playmates. I wouldn't want a man like Helen describes in her various books. My husband and I don't play Helen's games, thank goodness!

Not for the faint of heart!
This "how to marry" book goes against nearly every other book on the subject that I have ever seen. Mrs. Andelin advocates a very traditional and Biblically-based method of preparing oneself for marriage and then seeking the man of your choice--probably someone who is also very traditional and Biblically based. Other differences include the author's rejection of modern sexual morays as well as her emphasis on duty and responsibility as opposed to fighting for one's rights in a relationship. She, wisely, advises women to take a serious look at the men they date as one of her tenets is "Accept Him at Face Value" or, in other words, what you see is what you're going to have to live with. If you are of feminist leanings, however, this book will drive you up a wall!
